LIQUORexam.com is a comprehensive Alcohol Server and Seller Training program designed to provide the tools necessary for you to be able to sell and/or serve alcohol responsibly, legally and safely in the State of Tennessee*.

This program has been developed by industry professionals encompassing all aspects of alcohol service. Whether you serve and/or sell alcohol at a restaurant, bar, nightclub, convention center, grocery store, convenience store, sporting stadium or live music arena, this training is right for you.

The LIQUORexam.com online training program is a self paced learning module that can be administered at any time. This program is easy to follow and was designed to help you learn what it takes to become a responsible alcohol server and/or seller. Upon completion of the learning module, you will be provided a multiple choice test and you must receive a passing score to receive your certification. Once you pass the test, you will be able to print your proof of completion directly from your account.

The Tennessee Responsible Vendor Act of 2006, codified at T.C.A. § 57-5-601 et seq., is a program administered by the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC) for vendors who sell beer for off-premises consumption. The program is an effort to curb the sale of beer to minors and to reduce intoxication and accidents, injuries and deaths related to intoxication. The program is voluntary; vendors are not required to participate. Vendors who do elect to participate in the program and who receive and maintain their certification as a responsible vendor are entitled to reduced penalties for offenses related to the sale of beer to minors.

Under T.C.A. § 57-5-606, the ABC will certify a beer vendor as a “responsible vendor” upon compliance with the following:

  • All clerks who sell beer for off-premises consumption must successfully complete a responsible vendor training program and become certified within 61 days after being employed by the vendor, and the vendor must verify with the ABC prior to employing a clerk that the clerk is eligible for certification.
  • Each clerk must be issued a name badge with the clerk’s first name clearly visible, and must wear the badge at all times while on duty.
  • The vendor must provide employees with instruction approved by the ABC which includes the laws regarding the sale of beer for off-premises consumption, methods for recognizing and dealing with underage customers, and procedures for refusing to sell beer to underage customers and for dealing with intoxicated customers.
  • The vendor must require all certified clerks to attend at least one annual meeting at which the vendor disseminates updated information prescribed by the ABC.
  • The vendor must maintain employment and training records.

Responsible vendors are required to post signs on their premises informing customers of their policy against selling beer to underage persons. These signs must be at least 8½" x 11" and must contain the following language: “STATE LAW REQUIRES IDENTIFICATION FOR THE SALE OF BEER.” T.C.A. § 57-5-301(a)(1).

In Tennessee, every person seeking a server permit from the Commission authorizing that person to sell or serve alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises must make written application to the Commission for a sever permit on forms prescribed by the Commission. A twenty dollar non-refundable fee shall accompany each application.

Every application for a server’s permit shall include a certificate from a Commission certified organization or entity, demonstrating that the applicant has successfully completed a certified course on alcohol awareness within one year of the date of the application. Copies of the certificate are acceptable to obtain a new permit.

  • Applicant for an On-Premise Server Permit must be at least eighteen (18) years old
  • Applicant must complete a TABC certified alcohol awareness program within the previous year prior to applying for an On-Premise Server permit
    • The Certificate indicating successful completion of the class is not a TABC server permit. Please remember that servers must attend and pass a TABC certified alcohol awareness class within one year of the date of application for the server permit. If the permit is not obtained within one year of successfully completing the class, then servers must attend and pass the training course again
    • New servers have a sixty-one (61) day grace period from the original date of hire to attend a TABC certified alcohol awareness training class and have a server permit on file with the establishment of hire. This is a one-time grace period, not available every time a server changes employers
  • On-Premise Consumption licensees must have copies of all server permits available for review by the TABC at all times, and failure to do so could result in disciplinary and administrative actions.

Permanent brain damage can occur in only a few minutes due to a lack of oxygenated blood caused by the stopping of the heart.
